August 1, 2020 – Are you breathing?

I have noticed that people are talking about the “current situation” and about “everything that is going on”. It is almost as if we are afraid to name it or to speak plain about it. I wonder about that.

For me, it’s true. I don’t want to speak of everything that is going on right now. My feelings are all over the place and I would rather not think about it at all, but how long can I allow myself to avoid reality.

Sure, take a bit of time, get your thoughts together, prepare yourself for what you have to do. That’s right breathe, plan, do.

The breathing stage is an important part of self-care. As a person who lives with depression, I find that in stressful situations that sometime I forget to breathe. I am to busy trying to function; trying to get everything done. I am a doer, and recognize that the world doesn’t stop because I am stressed. However, if I don’t take time to take care of myself, it will catch up with me.

To be my best self, self-care is critical, especially during time of stress. So, take five and

B – R – E – A – T – H – E.
